Dorn Method
Dorn method is a manual way to gently balance different leg lengths, inward facing big toes, scoliotic spine deviation, vertebral shifts, prolapsed discs, and joint problems.
Unlike chiropractic, there are no abrupt and “violent” movements. The method doesn’t go through pain! Pain is avoided in this method.
Suitable for anyone who:
– is unsure whether or not they have shifted pelvis, different leg lengths, or vertebral shifts
– has back pain, joint pain, or some curvature
Who is Dorn method suitable for?
Dorn method can be used to treat different parts of the body and I use it for all clients.
The main reason is that 95% of clients have different “leg lengths”. That means, they have one leg slightly dislocated from the hip, even though they experience no pain or problems with limping. The most common cause is crossing one leg over the other.
The use of DM is most common in case of:
– pain in the spine
– joint pain
– different leg lengths
– pelvis at a wrong angle
– spine scoliosis
– herniated vertebrae
– sacroiliac (SI) and cross-bone pain
How is Dorn method performed?
Most techniques in Dorn method are performed gently, pain-free, with the participation of the client, using their breath and, for example, gentle movements of upper or lower limbs.
For work with different parts of the body, certain positions are selected in sitting, lying or standing
.
For example, oil is used for straightening the vertebrae, however, no oil is used for “straightening” the joints, if needed, we use aids such as a mat or towel.
During most of the techniques, the clients are in their underwear.
When not to apply Dorn method? – Contraindications
The Dorn method is not applied to clients with the following problems:
– osteoporosis (bone thinning)
– rheumatoid arthritis
– grade 4 arthrosis
– cancerous disease of the bone marrow, bone and skin (also other oncological diseases during chemotherapy or radiation). Always better consult your physician.
– “Cauda equina syndrome” – type of intervertebral disc herniation
– destroyed core of the intervertebral disc
– spine cleft
– spinal surgery – irreversible surgery
Then there are partial contraindications for the following:
– Bechterew’s disease
– multiple sclerosis
– spinal surgery up to 6 months after the surgery
– within 6 months after injuries
– intervertebral disc herniation (lumbar and thoracic spine up to 5 mm and cervical up to 3 mm)
How is Dorn method performed?
Work with a client using Dorn method is divided into three blocks/weeks. There are two reasons for this:
– Time. It is not possible to manage to do everything with the client at once.
– Security. The client must first get used to the new position of the legs and hips, and the body (muscles and ligaments) must adapt. Only then we can proceed to make further changes. Otherwise, the treatment could be useless without a lasting result.
The blocks/weeks are as follows:
1. block/week – the basis of Dorn method is balancing the hips and legs (ankle and knee joints)
2. block/week – if the hips and legs are okay, we work on the spine (lumbar and thoracic)
3. block/week – we correct cervical spine and joints of the upper extremities
Are there any exercises for Dorn method? Can I partly help myself?
In Dorn method, there are numerous exercises to do, either between treatments or preventively. At the same time, there are many recommendations what not to do after the treatment and what postures and activities may return the body to the previous wrong position.
The exercises are mainly related to straightening of the lower limbs. The client’s cooperation is always in place, as it leads to better results and the treatment does not have to be repeated several times. Similarly, the clients will learn how to address problems, which may possibly arise, themselves.
It is advisable to combine Dorn method with Trigger point release, as muscles with said type of stiffening are shortened and tend to cause, again, musculoskeletal system issues – related to bones and joints of the client.
Thus, it is advantageous for the client when the masseur examines the client and checks whether the muscles are all right, without any trigger points, or possibly releases them, so that the straightening of the joints, vertebrae, etc. has a more permanent character and the client’s troubles do not recur.
